Compete With Anyone at Any Age, Even Yourself.
OutSwim scores your swims, from zero to 1,000+, against the fastest performances ever, adjusted for your exact age. Your score compares your swims to other swimmers of any age, in any event, creating equity based on scientifically derived aging curves. Finally, age-grading gets an upgrade.
THE SOLUTION
A New Standard of Competition and Motivation.
OUTSWIM
How It Empowers You
Ten ways OutSwim turns any swim into a fair, age-aware performance score.
Maintaining consistency across the years is a massive physical victory. OutSwim translates your times into a rising or stable score, allowing you to prove you are gaining relative power and efficiency against the calendar even when a traditional stopwatch says you hit the same or slower baseline time.
Keep a clean, visual log of your performance health. Instead of feeling discouraged by a changing calendar, watch your custom OutSwim index and train to outpace the expectations of age.
Break free from static age brackets. OutSwim calculates your score dynamically using your exact single-year age, meaning you can outperform your younger self or out-score competitors even at the top of a traditional 5-year group.
Act as a data-driven goal hunter. Plug in any official sitting record or time—from a local club or LMSC target to a national mark. OutSwim unmasks the score behind the clock to reveal which times are mathematically "soft" and ripe to be broken and The reverse engineering option lets you target a score and time before you've done it.
Input a lifetime personal best from 5, 10, or 15 years ago to compete directly against your younger self. If your current swim fights off the biological tax more effectively than you did back then, you’ve outswum yourself.
Input your times across multiple disciplines to generate a unified average score. OutSwim strips away event bias, revealing your true standing as a versatile, well-rounded swimmer.
Pinpoint exactly what your best events are by easily comparing your scores across different distances and strokes. The science should indicate your highest event score is your strongest event.
Choose a target score you want to hit by the end of the season, and the engine works backward to give you the exact clock times you need to target in practice.
Eliminate hollow medals. OutSwim empowers meet directors to score events on a unified performance scale, awarding true, high-prestige titles based purely on athletic excellence rather than low bracket participation.
Build an electric pool deck culture. Coaches and swimmers can pull random athletes from any lane—regardless of age, gender, or specialty—for instant head-to-head practice challenges.
Traditional competitions can't tell you whose performance was truly superior—divided by different strokes, distances, formats, and ages.
OutSwim collapses those dimensions into one fair scale, allowing any two athletes in different age groups, and even events, to instantly discover who genuinely outswam the other.
OUTSWIM SCIENCE
The Science Behind OutSwim
A Groundbreaking Proprietary Scoring Engine
The OutSwim algorithm is a wholly proprietary performance engine developed by our team of data scientists and elite sports researchers. To map the absolute trajectory of human aging with pinpoint precision, our team conducted a massive, exhaustive review of over 900,000 real-world competition times and elite historical records across all age groups from 25 to 100+. (Note: While our scientific research explicitly shows the biological aging tax doesn't trigger until age 30, analyzing the 25–29 bracket was essential to anchoring our baseline curves).
This unprecedented data pool captures performances from:
- World Aquatics World Records (Olympians)
- World Aquatics Masters Records and All-Time Swims
- Multiple Nations’ Masters National Records
The proprietary model accounts for every single variable on the pool deck: every stroke, every standard distance, and all three pool formats (LCM, SCM, SCY).
How the Proprietary Curves Work
Swimmers’ performances are grouped into 22 distinct scientific "buckets"—representing every combination of sex, stroke, and event class (sprint (S), middle-distance (M), or distance (D)).
For each bucket, our proprietary exponential modeling maps exactly how performance naturally drifts away from peak youthful benchmarks as age increases. The biological tax affects distance freestyle completely differently than sprint butterfly.
The mathematical integrity of our model is incredibly strong. Across all 22 categories, the proprietary curves explain roughly 98% of the variation in how times change with age (with an average R2 of 0.981).
Understanding the Scale
The OutSwim curve is precisely calibrated to allow swimmers to measure their true athletic capabilities across generations.
The model is balanced so that a score fluctuating around 1,000 points represents the statistical center line for the most elite, world-record-holding Masters swimmers in history for their age. Because human performance naturally varies, historic World Record performances sit tightly clustered on both sides of this line (for example, one 400m Freestyle Masters Age-Group World Record scores a 994 on the curve).
While world records sit in the 900s and 1,000s, an occasional, mind-boggling statistical outlier performance can pierce through the center line to score in the 1,100s or 1,200+s.
Because our model maps true biological potential, if an official sitting national or world record scores significantly below the 1,000-point line (such as an 850), it indicates that record is mathematically "soft"—slower than what the biological model predicts. Ambitious swimmers can use OutSwim to hunt down these soft records globally. This can be applied to local or zone records as well.
After reviewing our database of 900,000 competition times, the data shows that the average Masters swimming score sits in the mid-600s. This gives everyday competitive swimmers a realistic benchmark to measure their progress against the wider community and to motivate themselves to outswim the age curves and improve or hold fast.
The Bottom Line
OutSwim turns the messy, multi-dimensional reality of Masters swimming performances into one intuitive number, calibrated so that 1,000 represents elite, world-record level execution for your exact age and event. Built on a massive, verified body of historical record data, the proprietary formulas are mathematically optimized to deliver absolute fairness—giving every adult athlete the ultimate tool to accurately measure their true athletic power.
OutSwim Measures the Effect of Age on Performance.
Built for every adult athlete from age 30 to 100+, OutSwim maps exactly how the biological tax affects performance over time.
Our curves are derived from thousands of real-world data points across World Aquatics Records, Masters All-Time Swims, and National Records. Anchored by peak Olympic baselines. Elite World Record Scores are in the 1,000 point range and the average masters score is in the mid-600s.
